About the position

The University of Hawai'i at Manoa's School of Architecture is seeking a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Architecture with a focus on design and construction. The role emphasizes practical and technical expertise in building materials, construction processes, and systems integration, with a research interest in architectural technology or ecological design relevant to the Pacific Islands. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and service within the school, aiming to enhance the curriculum and foster interdisciplinary collaborations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach courses focused on architecture and building technology.
  • Conduct research and creative work in architectural design and technology.
  • Advise thesis projects and mentor students in design studios.
  • Collaborate with faculty from other departments on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and explore new program opportunities.

Requirements

  • Professional Master of Architecture (MArch) degree or a relevant graduate degree.
  • Professional experience in construction.
  • Documentation of a professional license to practice architecture, landscape architecture, or engineering required before tenure application for non-PhD candidates.
  • Excellent design, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to maintain a vigorous program of research and/or creative work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in professional practice with a body of work demonstrating design excellence.
  • Established record of teaching integrated or advanced design studios.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Expertise in design research at the intersection of architecture and landscape architecture, urban design, and ecological design.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse groups.
