About the position

The Philosophy program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) seeks an Assistant Professor of Philosophy (tenure-track) with an AOS: Open (working on issues related to AI or cognitive science) and AOC: Open (with needs in Mind, Metaphysics, Ethics, Medical Humanities, Modern Philosophy) with an anticipated start date of August 18, 2025. We are looking for a candidate who can build bridges across traditional disciplinary boundaries to work with colleagues from across the university in either AI or cognitive science. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of lower level and upper level courses that contribute to the general education curriculum and the Philosophy major. The position carries a standard 3-3 teaching load, research, and service expectations. The PhD in Philosophy is required one month before the academic year begins, July 18, 2025. Applicants should explain in their cover letter how their research relates to issues in AI or cognitive science and which areas of additional need (Mind, Metaphysics, Ethics, Medical Humanities, Modern Philosophy) they are prepared to teach in. UNO is a Doctoral/Research institution with over 15,000 students. The Philosophy program at UNO offers three different concentrations within its Philosophy major: (i) Generalist; (ii) Ethics, Law, and Social-Political Philosophy; and (iii) Philosophy of Mind, Brains, and Machines. We have approximately 40 majors and a very active philosophy club. Excellence in teaching is essential.
