About the position

The Department of Environmental Studies invites applications to fill a full-time, tenure-track position beginning July 1, 2025. Rank is at the assistant professor level. Qualified applicants will demonstrate a commitment to excellent teaching in a baccalaureate liberal arts setting; a record of and potential for quality scholarship; enthusiasm for service in the university and surrounding community; and have the ability to offer a range of undergraduate environmental studies (policy) courses including an introductory course in Environmental Governance. Candidates with interest and ability to teach applied courses related to environmental policy and facilitate student-focused initiatives related to sustainability are especially encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in Environmental Studies or a related field that informs the policy/social science aspect of Environmental Studies, should be completed by the time of appointment. Interested individuals must submit application materials no later than February 17, 2025 to ensure consideration for a Zoom interview in early March. To apply, submit letter of interest, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy including a diversity and inclusion statement, and list of three potential references. Evidence of scholarly professional achievement, and college/university transcripts may be required prior to a campus interview.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Environmental Studies, including Environmental Governance, Principles of Sustainability, and upper-division courses related to the candidate's disciplinary expertise.
  • Assist and mentor students as a faculty advisor in academic and career planning.
  • Actively engage in scholarly research and professional development.
  • Perform other responsibilities of a faculty member at a liberal arts university, including assisting with student recruitment, student retention, and participation in faculty governance.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Studies or a related field that informs the policy/social science aspect of Environmental Studies by July 1, 2025.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching that values the undergraduate liberal arts experience emphasizing critical thinking, community engagement, and faculty-student collaboration.
  • Evidence of and commitment to teaching and mentorship of diverse students, e.g., new majority students including first-generation students, students of color, transfer, and/or Pell-eligible students.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues, students, and staff, and a demonstrated capacity to serve the department and the larger university community.

Nice-to-haves
