About the position

This is a full-time, limited residency, nine-month tenure track position (with summer teaching available) in the Department of Advanced Education Programs in the College of Education at Fort Hays State University. The position's primary responsibility is instruction in counselor education in the CACREP-accredited School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs, with the expectation that the faculty member will also engage in scholarly activity and university/professional service. The areas of responsibility are typically in a proportion of 60% instruction, 20% scholarship, and 20% service. Responsibilities will also include advising, clinical supervision of practicum and internship students, and assisting with accreditation.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the equivalent of 12 credit hours per semester at the graduate level within the Counseling Program.
  • Provide clinical supervision for student practicum and internship experiences.
  • Student advisement at the graduate level, including career counseling and class schedules.
  • Engage in scholarship activities such as book/journal publications, writing grant proposals, and conference presentations.
  • Participate in service activities at the national, regional, state, or local levels.

Requirements

  • An earned doctoral degree before the appointment date in counselor education and supervision or emphasis in that area, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Experience as a school counselor and/or experience as a counselor in mental health or community settings.
  • Eligibility for LPC/LCPC or an equivalent license in the state of Kansas.

Nice-to-haves

  • Practical/relevant experience as a school counselor and/or a counselor in mental health or a community setting.
  • Instructional experience in a college or university.
  • Experience in the application of educational technology in distance education and traditional learning environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and supervising graduate students.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly activity and service to the larger community.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional service activities.
