About the position

The University of California, Davis is seeking an Assistant Professor of Clinical Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery to join its expanding surgical services team. This role involves a significant clinical effort, teaching responsibilities, and contributions to the advancement of veterinary medicine through creative scholarship. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative environment, providing high-quality care to patients while also educating veterinary students and residents.

Responsibilities

• Direct, instruct, and supervise veterinary students and residents in the Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery service.
• Provide health care and service to in-house and referral patients.
• Advise and consult with referring veterinarians and clients.
• Participate in lectures and laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum.
• Engage in clinical teaching in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH).
• Participate in the graduate clinical (resident) training program of the VMTH.
• Advance the discipline of Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery within the VMTH.
• Conduct clinical research studies and improve veterinary medical education.
• Engage in university and public service through committee work and professional organizations.

Requirements

• DVM or equivalent degree and board certification or residency completion in ACVS or ECVS.
• Documented clinical experience and competence in small animal orthopedic surgery.
• Aptitude and experience in or interest in clinical teaching.
• A record of creative scholarship.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with total joint replacement and medical 3D printing.
