About the position

The Department of Architecture at Penn State University is seeking a tenure-line Assistant Professor with a focus on building design. The role emphasizes teaching excellence in both graduate and undergraduate programs, contributing to the development of accredited curricula, and engaging in faculty research across various clusters. The ideal candidate will have a strong architectural practice background, a commitment to teaching, and a passion for advancing architectural design pedagogy. This position is set to begin in Fall 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in architecture with a focus on building design.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of NAAB accredited curricula.
  • Engage in research and creative practice within the department's research clusters.
  • Mentor and inspire students in foundational design concepts.
  • Collaborate with faculty and students across disciplines to enhance the educational experience.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree in architecture (M. Arch; D. Arch; Ph.D.) is required.
  • Professional experience in architectural practice is preferred.
  • A professional license to practice architecture is preferred.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence and ability to contribute to architectural research.
  • Experience with equitable considerations in curriculum development and inclusive practices.

  • Evidence of external grant funding or competitive awards in architectural research.
