About the position

The University of Virginia School of Architecture is seeking emerging designers and educators for the position of Assistant Professor, Virginia Architecture Fellowship. This one-year, non-tenure track role focuses on both research and teaching, with the potential for renewal for a second year. The position emphasizes strong design experience, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and a commitment to advancing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion within the architectural field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a one-year creative research project and pedagogy at the University of Virginia.
  • Teach three courses, including studios and related classes in areas of expertise.
  • Engage in service expectations as determined by the department chair.
  • Collaborate across the school and university, contributing to an intellectually diverse environment.
  • Exhibit research project outcomes in the spring.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in Architecture (MArch) or a comparable degree in a related field.
  • Strong design experience across various scales and project types.
  • Exceptional design teaching capacity and compelling research proposals.

Nice-to-haves
