About the position

The University of Virginia School of Architecture is seeking emerging designers and educators for the position of Assistant Professor, Virginia Architecture Fellowship. This one-year, non-tenure track role focuses on research and teaching, with a strong emphasis on design experience across various scales and project types. Candidates are expected to contribute to the school's commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion while developing a creative research project and pedagogy during their fellowship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a one-year creative research project and pedagogy at the University of Virginia.
  • Teach three courses during the fellowship, with a reduced teaching load of one course in the first year.
  • Engage in mentorship and collaboration across the school and university.
  • Exhibit research project findings in the spring of the fellowship year.
  • Contribute to service expectations as determined by the department chair.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in Architecture (MArch) or a comparable degree in a related field.
  • Strong design experience across various scales and project types.
  • Exceptional design teaching capacity and compelling research proposals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Licensure in Architecture or an advanced degree in an area of specialization.
