About the position

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Architecture with a focus on Design History Theory, starting August 1, 2025. This full-time position emphasizes the integration of history and theory into architectural design pedagogy, contributing to the School of Architecture's mission of collaborative and innovative education. The successful candidate will engage in teaching, research, and creative work, particularly in areas not currently represented in the faculty's scholarship.

Responsibilities

  • Teach architectural design studios, lectures, and seminars in the history and theory of architecture.
  • Maintain a robust body of research and/or creative work in architectural history and theory.
  • Explore the role of history and theory in design pedagogy.
  • Contribute to the School's growth and curricular exploration.
  • Foster student success and inclusive cultures within studio and classroom settings.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in architecture or a related field (ABDs may apply).
  • Experience or capacity for teaching the history and theory of architecture and architectural design studios.
  • Ability to implement experimental teaching modalities and methodologies.
  • Interest in collaborative teaching and interdisciplinary courses.
  • A trajectory in scholarship, creative activities, and/or engaged research.
