About the position

The Assistant Professor of African American Literature at Marist College is a tenure-track position aimed at enhancing the English Department's offerings in African American and American ethnic literature. The role involves teaching a variety of courses, contributing to interdisciplinary programs, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the academic community. The successful candidate will engage in teaching, research, and service activities, with a focus on fostering an inclusive environment for under-represented students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in African American literature and American ethnic literature.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary programs such as Africana Studies and American Studies.
  • Teach First Year Seminar courses and general education courses.
  • Engage in research and scholarship in the field of literature.
  • Participate in service activities for students and the college community.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in English or Comparative Literature by Fall 2025.
  • Teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness.

Nice-to-haves

  • Secondary specialization in African Diaspora literature or Latino/a literature.
  • Experience working with under-represented students or communities.
