About the position

The University of Arkansas is seeking a full-time, nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Interior Architecture and Design. This position focuses on innovative teaching, scholarship, and design practices, with an emphasis on transdisciplinary approaches and social equity in design. The successful candidate will contribute to a vibrant academic community, engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and participate in research and service activities. The role is designed to prepare students to tackle contemporary design challenges through collaborative education.

Responsibilities

  • Lead studio and classroom instruction for undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Create curriculum materials and construct syllabi for courses.
  • Assess student knowledge and skills, providing guidance for academic achievement.
  • Engage in peer-reviewed scholarly and creative inquiry.
  • Provide service to the department, school, university, and community.

Requirements

  • Terminal graduate degree in interior design, interior architecture, or a related discipline by the start of employment.
  • An active or developing research, scholarship, or creative activity agenda.
  • Excellent body of creative design work.
  • Strong writing and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least one or more degrees in interior design or interior architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to employ current best teaching practices in leading studios and lectures/seminars.
  • Experience with emerging technologies such as digital fabrication, BIM, VR, AI, and visualization.
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications and creative scholarship.
  • NCIDQ certification or the ability to complete the exam prior to tenure.
