About the position

The University of Oregon is seeking an Assistant Professor in Contemporary Art and Architecture with a focus on decolonizing perspectives. This tenure-track position aims to enhance the department's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by foregrounding historically underrepresented communities in research and teaching. The successful candidate will engage in scholarly research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and contribute to departmental service, fostering connections with other campus units.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in contemporary art and architecture.
  • Advise theses for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Conduct scholarly research and contribute to the field through publications and presentations.
  • Participate in departmental service and contribute to the institutional health of the department, college, and university.
  • Develop and implement courses that reflect a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • PhD in contemporary art history or related field, or ABD with expected completion by the time of appointment.
  • Active record of scholarly research, curatorial contributions, or engagement with the field appropriate to career stage.
  • Demonstrated excellence or potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
  • Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in research, teaching, or professional service.
  • Demonstrated potential for service to the department, institution, or intellectual community.

Nice-to-haves

  • Research or teaching that focuses on historically underrepresented communities in the field.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary projects that intersect with Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies, Women's Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Black Studies, Latin American Studies, or Asian Studies.
  • Professional activities that complement existing departmental foci, including the Americas, architecture and urbanism, East Asia, the Mediterranean world, modern and contemporary, museum, and curatorial studies.
