About the position

Riverside City College is seeking an Assistant Professor in Early Childhood Education to take primary responsibility for lecture, laboratory, and hybrid instruction in Early Childhood Education courses. The role emphasizes a commitment to educating a diverse student population and requires participation in various educational and community initiatives. The successful candidate will be involved in curriculum development, program assessment, and maintaining industry expertise while fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill the duties of a full-time instructor, including holding weekly office hours and completing 24 hours of 'flex credit'.
  • Be responsible for instruction in lecture and laboratory classes in Early Childhood Education and related disciplines.
  • Maintain industry expertise to keep the discipline up to date with current educational and licensing standards.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and technologies to engage students.
  • Provide leadership in program development and develop partnerships with regional colleges, industries, and governmental agencies.
  • Participate in the development and/or selection of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Engage in institutional service activities as expected of all faculty members.
  • Demonstrate commitment to student equity and facilitate efforts to help low-performing groups succeed.
  • Teach courses as assigned based on enrollment management principles.
  • Complete required professional development activities, workshops, or seminars.
  • Participate in discipline/department decision-making processes and maintain legal documents adhering to FERPA requirements.
  • Maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the position.

Requirements

  • Master's in child development, early childhood education, human development, or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; or Bachelor's in any of the above and a master's in related fields.
  • A minimum of two years of successful teaching experience in Early Childhood Education at a community college or baccalaureate level institution.
  • A minimum of two years of teaching and/or administration experience in a preschool or elementary school program.
  • Knowledge of culturally-responsive pedagogical techniques and practices.
