About the position

The Assistant Professor position in Adolescence Social Studies Education at SUNY Geneseo is a tenure-track role focused on teaching and preparing future educators in a liberal arts setting. The successful candidate will engage in teaching undergraduate and possibly graduate courses, supervise preservice teacher candidates, and contribute to the department's assessment and accreditation activities. The role emphasizes a commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as scholarly engagement in the field of adolescence education.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and possibly graduate coursework in Adolescence Education, including courses such as Dimensions of Teaching and Inquiry, Topics in Secondary Education - Social Studies, and Methods and Materials in Secondary Education - Social Studies.
  • Teaching via modalities that may include in-person, online, or hybrid formats.
  • Supervising preservice teacher education candidates in the field and supporting partnerships with field experience and student teaching placement sites.
  • Participating in assessment and accreditation activities and other department and College service.
  • Conducting research and pursuing scholarly work in areas of expertise.
  • Providing academic advisement for teacher candidates and collaborating with academic department advisors.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in Adolescence Education or a closely related field, or ABD with a designated completion date.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the field of adolescence and social studies education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working/teaching environment.
  • Evidence of scholarly engagement related to adolescence education, including publications and/or presentations.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in an adolescence education setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Teacher certification in adolescence education.
  • Experience teaching in or working with schools with culturally diverse populations, including English Language Learners.
  • Evidence of skillful college teaching experience.
  • Experience with community college, transfer articulation, and/or with transfer students.
  • Successful collaborative experience with schools and community partnerships.
  • Experience providing leadership and mentorship in the school community.
