About the position

The Assistant Prison Program Coordinator at Sinclair Community College plays a vital role in supporting the educational programs offered within correctional facilities. This part-time position is designed to assist the Coordinator of Educational Programs in ensuring the smooth operation of off-site programs. The individual will work closely with on-site correctional educational coordinators to facilitate student attendance in classes, maintain waiting lists, and assist in the registration process. Additionally, the coordinator will provide placement testing and supervise computer labs, offering technical assistance to students as needed. Tutoring services will also be part of the responsibilities, ensuring that students receive the support they need to succeed academically. The Assistant Coordinator will engage with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC) staff to promote the mission of Sinclair Community College's certificate and degree programs. This role requires active communication with the Coordinator of the Prison Educational Programs for the Advanced Learning (AJT) program, the respective Regional Manager, and other AJT staff, as well as Sinclair Community College faculty. The position also involves overseeing all facilities and equipment related to the delivery of SCC programs, ensuring compliance with the policies of both SCC and DRC, particularly regarding security protocols. The pay for this position is set at $18.23 per hour, and candidates are being sought for various correctional sites across Ohio, including Dayton, London, Orient, Leavittsburg, Marysville, and others. The role offers flexible hours, including daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the representation of Sinclair Community College and serve as a liaison between the office of the Coordinator and the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
  • Provide supervision and coordination of on-site activities involved with the operation of the certificate programs, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Support services for student success, including managing waiting lists, orientation, placement testing, registration, tutoring, and library resources.
  • Work with the Coordinator to identify credential programs, schedule courses, and secure adequate instructional space.
  • Assist in the institutional orientation of faculty and facilitate staff with obtaining security clearances and instructional space.
  • Supervise the operation and use of the on-site computer lab and provide technical assistance to students.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a correctional environment or closely related field required.
  • Good organizational skills, communication, writing, interpersonal skills, and telephone etiquette required.
  • Positive attitude and a strong desire to assist people required.
  • Knowledge of and successful professional experience working with the public or within the criminal justice system required.
  • Ability to work well with diverse constituents, including college faculty, administrators, inmates, and correctional staff required.
  • Provide customer service in a responsible manner, being knowledgeable, supportive, and ethically aware of diversity and cultures required.
  • Maturity, good judgment, and high ethical standards required.
  • Consistent attendance and accountability to the program required.
  • Ability to assist at other correctional facility sites as needed required.
  • Ability to pass a DRC background check required.
