About the position

The position involves assisting in the administrative responsibilities of the school under the direction of the principal, serving as acting principal in the principal's absence, and maintaining an effective learning climate. The role requires knowledge of best curriculum practices and the ability to implement programs to meet the academic and social/emotional needs of all students. The individual will work with various members of the central administrative staff on district-wide issues and ensure the efficient operation of the school by directing staff development and evaluation. Regular communication with students and parents is essential, as well as leading the development and monitoring of the instructional program.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a sound work ethic and positive attitude while carrying out the responsibilities of the position.
  • Assists in the administrative responsibilities of the school under the direction of the principal.
  • Serves as acting principal in the principal's absence.
  • Has experience and knowledge of best curriculum practices for respective grade levels in the school.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific academic and social/emotional needs of all students.
  • Works with various members of the central administrative staff on school issues of districtwide importance.
  • Keeps building principal and superintendent informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters.
  • Assures the efficient, effective operation of the school by directing the staff development and evaluation of employees.
  • Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
  • Maintains regular communication with students and parents.
  • Leads in the development, articulation and monitoring of the instructional program.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary with adopted district policy.
  • Structures school time to provide appropriate time to achieve the instructional goals of the school.
  • Leads in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum at the building level.
  • Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, school sponsored activities, functions and athletic events.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications.
  • Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and non-professional personnel assigned to the school.
  • Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating the school's professional staff.
  • Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
  • Assumes responsibility for the administration of the school safety plan.
  • Participates in principal's meetings and other such meetings as are required or appropriate.
  • Organizes and administers the public relations program for the school using appropriate means and resources.
  • Acts as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.
  • Perform such other tasks/duties as may be assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Illinois Professional Educator License
  • License Endorsement in General Administrative
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
