About The Position

The Los Angeles Unified School District is seeking outstanding Assistant Principal, Elementary Instructional Specialists to lead the students, staff, and community at various schools towards academic success. Assistant Principal, Elementary Instructional Specialist (APEIS) work as an itinerant administrator to assist principals in meeting special education compliance obligations, including ensuring the legal requirements for the IEP process are met and services outlined on the IEP are provided; ensures appropriate instruction and services are provided to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment; facilitates active parent participation in all aspects of the IEP process and school program; and advises school staff on implementation of academic and behavioral interventions prior to referral for special education. APEIS serve multiple schools and must have a valid California Driver's License, access to an automobile, and the ability to travel throughout the District. The schools are located in various parts of the Local District.

Requirements

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Multicultural coursework
  • District Master Plan requirements
  • Candidates have one year to complete this requirement
  • For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying.
  • In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.
  • Five years of successful full-time public school certificated service
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Access to an automobile
  • Ability to travel throughout the District

Nice To Haves

  • Elementary and special education teaching experience
  • Successful experience as a program specialist or in a position related to special education
  • Successful experience in an elementary school leadership position, such as a grade level chairperson, school coordinator, demonstration teacher or a position requiring leadership in the instructional program in grades Pre K- through 5th grade.

  • Knowledge of Special Education Laws, Policies, and Procedure

Responsibilities
