About the position

The Salina Public School District is seeking a proven administrator who will assist in providing innovative instructional leadership that will result in a profound effect on the achievement of students at Salina South Middle School. This individual will demonstrate a high standard of ethics in all professional relationships, actions, and decisions. The district's expectation is that this administrator will assist in the design and implementation of innovative curriculum, instruction and assessment practices at Salina South Middle School. The administrator must have a deep understanding of 21st Century Skills, Common Core Standards, KSDE's Multi-Tiered System of Support, and other educational pedagogy that will ensure that Salina South Middle School will be known throughout the state and the nation as a leading educational middle school.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in establishing and monitoring systems to provide feedback on the effectiveness of the school's curriculum, instruction and assessment practices and their impact on student achievement.
  • Is highly visible to teachers, students and parents through frequent visits to classrooms and student activities.
  • Assists staff in continuous improvement of instruction and program delivery; monitors student performance within the building.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining a culture where ideas are shared and staff members operate within a spirit of cooperation focusing on student achievement.
  • Promotes effective curriculum and program communication to flow between the building and the district's central office.
  • Supervises and evaluates work of personnel assigned to the building; develops appropriate recommendations for staff which may involve placement, professional development, reassignment of personnel, or dismissal in conjunction with the appropriate district human resources guidelines.
  • Establishes relationships between the school and its stakeholders (i.e.., students, families, parent groups, community agencies, business community, etc.); ensures and promotes student welfare; exercises good judgment in dealings with students, staff, parents and the public.
  • Directs student placement for optimum academic achievement and overall success.
  • Supervises student discipline, management of the campus, and any program held at the school under district sanction; works cooperatively with district administrators in emergency situations.
  • Supervises school safety program; ensures compliance with district, state and federal regulations.
  • Participates at staff meetings and in-service training programs sponsored by district administration; maintains and updates knowledge and skills necessary for success in the position by participating in professional development activities as needed or as assigned.
  • Supervises the security and care of assigned equipment, buildings, grounds and other school property.
  • Prepares reports and maintains current records as required; analyzes and utilizes the data to lead program improvement within the building.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or designee.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Successful experience as a teacher or assistant principal at the secondary level or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
  • Valid Kansas Building Administration Licensure.
  • Valid Kansas state driver's license and access to personal transportation.
