About the position

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) in the Surgical Department at the Veterans Affairs Health Administration plays a crucial role in enhancing leadership and career growth within the nursing team. This position is responsible for fostering a culture of accountability and high-quality care, managing staff performance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The ANM collaborates with physicians and other clinicians to provide culturally competent care and improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
  • Adhere to ethical principles in decision-making and foster accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
  • Equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promote a culture of accountability for high-quality outcomes.
  • Develop time schedules and complete performance evaluations for nursing staff.
  • Recommend disciplinary actions and manage performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure patient and employee safety, customer service, and satisfaction.
  • Maintain standards of care and practice, and ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and manage collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S.
  • Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a supervisory role within a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of performance improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards in healthcare.
