About the position

A Medical Assistant (MA) at Kedren Community Care Clinic (KCCC) performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities in a manner that places emphasis on quality of care and customer service. The incumbent must work collaboratively with all clinical services staff in support of direct patient services, exhibiting flexibility and a 'can-do' attitude. Patient services are the key priority in this position requiring the MA to serve as a point of contact with other internal and external departments, all with the goal of fostering an environment which promotes patient comfort and trust. This position must exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient/staff interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares for patient appointments by reviewing and updating patient records prior to appointment using clinic's EHR.
  • Maintains exam rooms according to protocols, ensuring cleanliness and compliance with infection control standards.
  • Prepares patients for visits and alerts licensed provider when patient is ready to be seen.
  • Provides initial medical screening, including recording vital signs and basic medical history.
  • Carries out all provider orders including administration of immunizations and medications.
  • Assists providers during patient examinations and facilitates communication between providers and patients.
  • Discharges patients and provides them with necessary documentation and follow-up information.
  • Utilizes time efficiently by assisting with clerical duties and maintaining cleanliness in the clinic.
  • Accepts floating assignments to other areas of KCCC as needed.
  • Maintains work station according to protocols and performs routine quality checks of equipment.
  • Ensures clinical areas are organized and adheres to safety and quality patient care standards.
  • Collaborates with clinical staff and other departments to solve problems and provide quality patient care.
  • Acts in emergency situations and assists in patient evacuation if necessary.
  • Performs EKGs and acts as backup for lab technologist when directed.
  • Attends staff and medical meetings as required.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with KCCC Policies and Procedures.
  • Assists and trains new hire staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program/Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Current, valid CPR certification.
  • Familiarity with Community Health Clinics (FQHC).
  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year of experience as Medical Assistant, non-profit setting highly desirable.
  • Knowledgeable of an electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Valid California Driver's License and proof of personal liability auto insurance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with ethnically diverse populations.
