About the position

As an Assistant Negotiator, one learns the tools, terminology and decision making used in media, and to assist in the daily maintenance of accounts. Assistant Negotiators develop a complete understanding of 'the life of a unit' (i.e. purchasing, tracking, impact on traffic, billing and stewardship of schedules). Assistant Negotiators establish strong relationships with both the outside vendors and the agency strategy teams to ensure that all media buys are well executed.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and initiate the schedule process from media flowcharts and buy specs
  • Assist in the building of schedules by release/title
  • Assist in the tracking of inventory (allocated vs. unallocated)
  • Working knowledge of media math (equivalized vs. pure ratings, demo translations, reweighting, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of media terminology concepts (single vs. dual feed, network universe vs. national universe, 'integrity of the mix', estimates vs. actuals, ratings, VPVHs, impressions, CPMs, etc.)
  • Assist in development of planning costs for strategy team, based on marketplace knowledge
  • Responsible for ensuring that all schedules are loaded properly and match all contracts/proposals
  • Prepare and analyze stewardships and post buy analyses on a quarterly and annual basis to ensure all buys deliver audiences as guaranteed
  • Establish relationships with vendors to ensure schedule and programming changes are dealt with in an efficient manner
  • Issue RFP's/specs to vendors while managing pricing and availability information with regards to purchasing advertising space
  • Manage discrepancy resolution with regards to make-goods and credits
  • Assist the Negotiator and Supervisor with pulling research (i.e. television ratings/programming and industry/ marketplace/ technology trends) for any given projects/assignments
  • Successful completion of all training courses
  • Learn and excel in the problem solving/analytical skills necessary to become a buyer
  • Collect spot times from networks daily

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 0-2 years of experience in National television buying
  • Proficient at Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate and communicate clearly when participating in internal and client-facing meetings
  • Ability to work successfully with teams, handling multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines under pressure
  • Detail-oriented and able to produce accurate work product
  • Demonstrated proactive approach to problem solving and critical thinking
  • Ability to be agile and adaptable within a quick turnaround business environment
  • Ability to work with numbers
  • Attention to detail
