About the position

The Assistant Machine Operator is responsible for supporting the operation of production machines, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency in the manufacturing process. This role involves assisting the Machine Operator with setup, operation, and cleanup of machinery, while also participating in safety initiatives and maintaining high standards of quality control. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying mechanical issues and improving operational efficiencies.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely at all times and comply with Pratt Industries safety rules and operating procedures.
  • Participate in the Plant Safety Committee.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs) and Pratt Industries quality procedures.
  • Prevent poor quality products from leaving the facility by catching issues early in the manufacturing process.
  • Assist the Machine Operator in maximizing equipment utilization and operating machinery at available capacity and speed.
  • Improve setup times and reduce downtime on a daily basis.
  • Identify mechanical concerns and report them to the Production Supervisor or relevant personnel.
  • Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping of work areas, including break rooms and bathrooms.
  • Learn the capabilities and capacities of the machine to drive efficiencies and limit waste.
  • Assist in completing necessary reports accurately and timely, including production and safety data.
  • Submit maintenance work order requests for needed repairs on machinery.
  • Be proactive in maintenance and housekeeping of equipment.
  • Cross-train on other machines and learn various positions within the plant.
  • Adhere to production schedules and make recommendations for optimization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions related to quality, safety, and job packets.
  • Mathematical skills to read a tape measure and calculate figures such as percentages and volume.
  • Common sense reasoning to carry out instructions in various forms.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior work experience in the packaging industry, particularly in paper or plastics.
  • 6 months of experience in a manufacturing operation.
  • Current Lift Truck Operator License.
