About the position
The Assistant Girls Basketball Coach at HB Lee is responsible for supporting the head coach in organizing and managing the girls' basketball program. This role involves conducting practices, motivating student-athletes, and instructing them in game strategies and techniques to enhance their performance.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach with instructing students in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach.
- Assess participant's skills, monitor students during competition and practice, and keep the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
- Assist with determining game strategy.
- Supervise athletes during practices and competitions alongside the head coach.
- Follow established procedures in the event of an injury.
- Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards students, officials, and spectators.
- Maintain the equipment room in an orderly condition and assume responsibility for its security.
- Distribute equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach.
- Assist the head coach with submitting a list of award winners at the end of the season.
- Participate in special activities including parent's night, banquets, award nights, and assemblies.
- Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data, and other related records.
- Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Requirements
- Some experience as an assistant basketball coach at the high school or college level preferred.
- Effective coaching techniques and skills.
- Knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of basketball.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
