About the position

The Assistant Front-End Manager at Homeland Stores is responsible for overseeing customer service operations at the front end of the store. This role involves supervising staff, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining efficient checkout processes. The position requires a passion for food and a commitment to delivering top-level customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and supervise the greeting of customers, responding to questions, requests, and complaints courteously.
  • Initiate and make recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, promotion, and evaluation of front-end personnel.
  • Orient and train new front-end associates and provide retraining as necessary.
  • Develop a weekly labor schedule for all front-end employees with the store manager's approval.
  • Ensure safety for self, customers, and co-workers by practicing store safety rules and reporting hazards.
  • Bag customer purchases quickly and correctly.
  • Understand the operation and safety requirements of electronic cash registers, scanners, scales, and intercom systems.
  • Monitor front-end service and call for additional help or open express lanes when necessary.
  • Get change for cashiers and approve checks, refunds, and voids.
  • Supervise and perform checkout and proper bagging of customer purchases, including moving bagged purchases to customer cars.
  • Supervise the return of 'go backs' to their locations, refill bag-stand areas, and collect carts from the parking lot.
  • Ensure compliance with store opening and closing accounting procedures.
  • Keep front-end personnel informed about new produce items, policies, and procedures.
  • Prevent loss of money and merchandise by ensuring proper handling of products and completing price checks.
  • Make judgments regarding employee scheduling, product orders, hiring, merchandising plans, and operational policies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Prior cashier experience
