About the position

The Assistant Farm Manager will support the daily operations of a poultry layer farm, focusing on the management and performance of commercial layers. This role requires a strong understanding of poultry physiology and the ability to manage farm employees effectively while ensuring compliance with safety and biosecurity standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the daily operations of the poultry farm.
• Manage and motivate farm employees to perform their duties effectively.
• Perform post mortem bird analysis and maintain proficiency in this area.
• Operate various computer applications and feed control systems to evaluate farm performance.
• Handle management functions and make decisions regarding personnel and equipment issues.
• Ensure compliance with farm safety and biosecurity standards, reporting any violations to the Farm Manager.
• Perform maintenance on equipment, including egg and feed conveying systems.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; additional training in poultry management is desired.
• Previous experience in layer house operations, farming, or general agricultural experience is highly desired.
• Willingness to be trained in post mortem bird analysis.
• Proficiency in operating computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Basic knowledge of electricity and its function in layer houses.
• Ability to perform maintenance on various equipment.

Nice-to-haves

• Post-secondary training or education in poultry management.
• Experience in grain operations or general agricultural practices.
