About the position

The Assistant Director of Engineering at the Odessa Marriott Hotel and Conference Center is responsible for maintaining the entire hotel facility, including the physical structure and all mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems. This role ensures the upkeep of guest areas and oversees the implementation of energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs. The position requires a hands-on approach to management, with minimal direct supervision, and involves leading a team to uphold Marriott's service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct walk-throughs to assess the maintenance and operation of the hotel's physical structures and systems.
  • Verify completion of routine maintenance on public spaces and other areas of the hotel.
  • Assist in hiring, training, supervising, and disciplining department staff.
  • Adhere to corporate purchasing policies and controls for contractor bids and budgets.
  • Maintain effective Energy Management and Preventive Maintenance programs.
  • Inform the General Manager and department heads about the condition of the building and systems.
  • Access and input information into a computer and generate reports.
  • Supervise necessary repairs and maintenance throughout the hotel.
  • Prepare technical data and project work for property alterations and repairs.
  • Actively train in fire prevention and safety protocols.
  • Attend meetings regarding hotel operations and quality improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree or related technical school degree preferred.
  • Five to seven years of experience in a major hotel, hospital, or building, including four years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required licenses and permits, including a first-class operating engineer's license.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook programs.
  • Basic computational ability and knowledge of budgetary analysis.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical equipment, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in hotel operations and service standards.
  • Knowledge of city codes and building laws.
  • Experience with maintenance program computer skills.
