About the position

The Assistant Director of Admissions, Alumni Engagement at the University of California, Berkeley, is responsible for developing and implementing outreach, recruitment, and admissions programs. This role serves as a liaison for alumni entities and ensures effective collaboration with stakeholders to enhance alumni engagement strategies. The position emphasizes equity-minded practices and aims to provide a fair opportunity for every applicant while maintaining positive staff morale and first-class customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as point of contact for assigned schools/community colleges.
  • Represent UC Berkeley at school/community college visits, college nights/fairs, and transfer days/fairs.
  • Plan visits to schools, schedule presentations, interviews, and follow-up visits.
  • Identify potential students and provide information about higher education and UC Berkeley.
  • Plan, manage, and implement recruitment events to enhance yield, including Cal Day and diversity initiative events.
  • Assess effectiveness in attracting quality students to UC Berkeley using marketing tools and technology.
  • Serve as liaison between students, parents, colleges/universities, and UC Berkeley.
  • Provide in-depth information on admissions requirements and assist prospective applicants with course planning.
  • Serve as lead reader for assigned region, training and managing external readers.
  • Read and score applications for first-year and transfer admission, assessing academic preparedness and overall applicant experience.
  • Maintain a caseload of newly admitted students and perform course evaluations for transfer credits.
  • Plan and implement activities for undergraduate student development in partnership with campus programs.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate University policies and procedures to prospective students and the public.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of academic programs, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs at colleges/universities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, and community organizations.
  • Ability to develop recruitment programs and design effective materials.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in student recruitment and knowledge of marketing research and analysis.
  • Time, organization, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of K-16 education issues.
  • Proficiency in various software applications including office productivity and customer relations management.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the Office of the President and Board of Admission and Relations with Schools (BOARS).
  • Bilingual/multilingual capabilities.
