About the position

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for the Courts and Judicial Affairs Division. This role involves substantial litigation at both trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts, providing legal advice and support to the Judiciary and related entities. The position requires handling various aspects of defense litigation, including case management, depositions, written discovery, and court appearances, with a focus on complex litigation.

Responsibilities

• Handle substantial litigation at trial and appellate levels in state and federal court.
• Provide legal advice and support to the Judiciary, including the Administrative Office of the Courts and county administrative judges.
• Independently manage cases, including taking and defending depositions.
• Draft briefs and appear in court for motions, hearings, and trials.
• Engage in extensive motions practice and complex litigation.
• Represent and advise employees within the Judicial Branch and related entities.

Requirements

• At least five years of civil litigation experience.
• Membership in the Maryland Bar and experience in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.
• Superior writing and research skills.
• Experience in employment litigation, including MCCR and EEOC charges, is highly desirable.
• Experience in torts and/or civil rights litigation is preferred.
• Appellate and trial experience (bench and/or jury) is preferred but not required.
