About the position

The University of Wisconsin-Stout is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor for its Fashion Design and Development Program, starting in the fall semester of 2025. This tenure-track position is designed for candidates who can contribute fresh perspectives and skills to the program, which emphasizes applied learning and industry partnerships. The role involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, engaging in creative research, and providing service to the department and university. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a productive research program and foster partnerships with the fashion and textile industries.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lecture and lab courses in fashion design and development, including introductory to advanced levels.
  • Advance student learning in alignment with UW-Stout's polytechnic tenets.
  • Provide academic advisement and assess student learning, contributing to program assessment and accreditation.
  • Develop a productive research program with potential for refereed scholarship.
  • Assist in maintaining lab equipment and facilities for the fashion design area.
  • Develop partnerships with the fashion and textile industries for student learning experiences.
  • Participate in program events and departmental meetings, demonstrating teamwork.
  • Perform university, community, and professional services.

Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. or MFA in fashion design or related field by the date of appointment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to teach university-level courses in fashion design or related fields.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 years of industry work experience in fashion design or development.
  • Evidence of a cohesive research program through publications or exhibitions.
  • Proficiency in fashion design software such as CLO3D, Optitex, or Gravity Sketch.
  • Interest in maintaining a historical fashion collection.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence and mentorship of undergraduates.
  • Demonstrated potential for multi-disciplinary collaborations.
