About the position

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Education will possess expertise in teacher education, curriculum and instruction, and be adept at using technology to support and enhance learning. The faculty member who assumes this position will work collaboratively with the School of Education (SoE) faculty and teach undergraduate courses within SoE programs that include K-12 pedagogy, and place teacher candidates in their field experiences and student teaching. Requirements are a Master's degree or greater in Education, or a closely related discipline, combined with experience and a passion for teaching at the undergraduate level. Faculty members of Colorado Christian University (CCU) teach assigned courses for which they are highly qualified within the College of Undergraduate Studies (CUS). Courses are traditional, primarily in-seat (some online teaching may be required), and offered on our Lakewood, Colorado campus. Each faculty member uses effective instruction techniques as a subject matter expert, but their primary responsibility is to integrate field-specific pedagogy with the Bible and a Christian worldview. They are also expected to integrate and teach CCU's spiritual, academic, and cultural Strategic Priorities. Other duties are to support the mission and vision of CCU. This may include actively participating in committee/task force/team meetings, writing curriculum, reporting on assessments/outcomes, advancing scholarship, engaging with the community, supporting colleagues, or doing other work assigned by the dean. Faculty members are expected to keep regular office hours, to engage with students, and assist them with their academics or other activities that support the University's holistic approach.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to CCU's mission: Christ-centered higher education transforming students to impact the world with grace and truth.
  • Advocate for CCU's mission, traditional Christian beliefs, and the Strategic Priorities.
  • Teach assigned undergraduate courses within the College of Undergraduate Studies in accord with all standard policies and procedures using a variety of best-practice teaching and learning strategies, including classroom and online technology, to enhance instruction.
  • Develop and maintain partner school relationships where teacher candidates are placed for field experiences; identify qualified school based teachers to host CCU students; arrange and assign placements for teacher candidates in elementary education; recruit/hire/train affiliate faculty as field supervisors; track and authorize payments for supervisors/school based teachers; conduct professional advising with identified advisees.
  • Work with the Dean to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise assigned program/course curricula, and assessments related to program and student learning outcomes.
  • Use a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies, including technology, to yield relevant and engaging classroom instruction resulting in student learning and satisfaction.
  • Engage students; maintain established office hours and be available to individual students for questions, coursework, consultations, and informal mentoring.
  • Engage in professional organization activities and scholarly work including, but not limited to, presentations commensurate with experience and academic rank.
  • Provide strategic thinking in fulfilling the goals of the College of Undergraduate Studies in support of the University's Strategic Priorities as well as contribute effectively to the University community, ministry partners, corporate partners, and general audiences.
  • Add to the development of a Christ-centered community of learners and scholars within the College of Undergraduate Studies.
  • Provide effective servant/shepherd leadership among faculty, staff, students, and administrators.
  • Work effectively and positively with administrators, other faculty colleagues, and support staff to establish and maintain effective positive working relationships.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities to support and encourage students, colleagues, and staff.
  • Perform other duties as identified and/or assigned.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree is required in education or related field.
  • Experience/understanding of K-8 educational leadership in elementary education.
  • Experience in the K-8 education sector required; experience in higher education preferred.
  • Passion for higher education, commitment to ongoing professional growth in teaching/instruction, and dedication to using assessment to yield student success.
  • Exemplary oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively and positively with students, administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrates servant leadership, high ethical standards, and professional business demeanor.
  • Professional engagement in education including presentations and/or involvement in professional/community activities related to education.
  • Proficient skill using Microsoft Office products: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
