About the position

As we continue to push the boundaries of what's possible in innovative solutions for the building materials industry, we are currently in the exciting phase of building out a specialized team dedicated to advancing Asphalt Technology. You will contribute to groundbreaking work to build subject matter expertise (SME) around fundamental and formulation science in asphalt technologies and expand process capabilities to support key technology platforms. Today our R&D team has an opportunity for an Asphalt Technician II in the Dallas Metro Area! This is a hands-on technical role responsible for supporting the development, and market differentiation, of GAF's asphaltic products. As such, s/he will provide the practical expertise necessary for successful development and production activities for Ennis Operations. The Asphalt Technician will be a key link in our efforts to translate innovative research & development activities into commercially-viable, high-quality asphaltic products that will set GAF apart from our competitors.

Responsibilities

  • R&D and Manufacturing
  • Working in GSuite applications.
  • Performing basic calculations for blending.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety.
  • Working with an internal database.
  • Building small construction projects such as test decks.
  • Performing basic raw material testing to include, but not limited to softening point, penetration, viscosity, stain, flash, separation, tensile, tears, mixing/blend work, and coupon preparation.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Engineering, Applied or Physical Science with 5+ years related experience OR
  • BS Degree Engineering, Applied or Physical Science OR
  • HS Diploma or GED with 7+ years related experience

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of analytical characterization and testing methods.
  • Chemical and/or materials knowledge, processing knowledge a plus but not required.
  • Statistical analysis or green belt certification preferred.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Ability to summarize work/key conclusions and prepare reports.
  • Capable of lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
