About the position

HF Sinclair Midstream located in Catoosa, OK is seeking an Asphalt Loader. The Asphalt Loader executes the daily and weekly loading schedule. They must ensure we have product on test, ready to meet our customers needs and the product is loaded and shipped according to customer specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Completes training topics (e.g. Product Blending Tank Farm, Diesel and Heavy Oils Railcar Loading) by reading documents, observing procedures, Active Learner Module and FOR School.
  • Prepares for emergency situations (e.g. tank overflow, underground pipe leak) by shutting down valves and pumps to stop all product flow, pumping product out of tanks, and notifying Lead Tech.
  • Prioritizes the blending and loading processes by using the 'Daily Operating Instructions' (DOI) and/or daily loading schedules - reviewing categorized information (e.g. rundowns, blending requirements, loading comments).
  • Collects blend samples for testing (e.g. if gauge goes out or spec is 'tight') by turning bleeder valves, or lowering containers into tanks, then properly tagging and sending to laboratory.
  • Checks product quality in rail car, truck, or tank by collecting lab samples using best practice sampling method, and visually looking for clarity and impurities.
  • Inspects equipment (e.g. pumps and tanks) by checking pressure gauges, oil levels, temperatures, and looking for leaks.
  • Inspects vehicle, prior to loading product, for cleanliness or damage, by observing for one wheel chocked, no leaks in body of trailer, ground cable secured, as per DOT HM126.
  • Checks lineups to verify correctness by walking and observing positions of valves, and verifying flow of product from and to destinations.
  • Loads tank cars and tank trucks with product (e.g. No. 2 Fuel Oil, Base Oils, Blended Oils, VTB, FLUX, Decant) by inserting loading arm or attaching hoses, then opens valves.
  • Monitors tank trucks for legal level (weight by using scales).
  • Secures domes and caps on tank cars by using hand tools (e.g. wrenches, pneumatic tools).
  • Provides an on-time switch list daily for the transportation department and switch crew by email.
  • Sets equipment controls to produce the required qualities and quantities of product by analyzing specifications, schedules, logs, test results, and laboratory recommendations.
  • Monitors progress of blending operations by recording temperatures and levels to insure correct amount of product is pumped.
  • Prepares line ups for pumping by identifying where product rundown is being saved, then calculating product blend amount to be pumped, and checking gauges to determine correct level.
  • Detects leaks by walking flow lines, making visual inspections of valves, and using gas monitor.
  • Prepares equipment for maintenance by following lockout tag out procedures (e.g. shutting down using power controls and breaker boxes, blocking lines, and isolating equipment).
  • Makes minor repairs (e.g. tightens packing, greases pump motors, fixes leaks) by using small hand tools such as wrenches, grease guns.
  • Reports all operational and equipment problems (e.g. seal leaking) to the supervisor for submitting a maintenance work request.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of related mechanical, industrial, military, stationary equipment experience or related experience.
  • A minimum of a High School degree or equivalent is required.

  • Experience in refinery or chemical plants.
