About the position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Correctional Medicine is responsible for providing direct nursing care to inmates/patients in a correctional facility. This role involves working under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician and addressing the complex medical needs of a high-need population, including those with mental health issues and substance use disorders. The LPN will uphold the mission and values of The MetroHealth System while delivering care in a challenging environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibilities for direct nursing care of assigned inmates/patients under supervision.
  • Provide nursing services in accordance with the scope of the Licensed Practical Nurse license.
  • Interact effectively with a diverse range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Uphold the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved School of Practical Nursing.
  • Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the State of Ohio.
  • Certification to pass medications and completion of an Ohio Board of Nursing IV therapy course.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within 90 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year experience in an in-patient or long term care setting.
