About the position

The AP Assessment Fellow in African American Studies at The College Board is a full-time, paid position within a two-year fellowship program designed to cultivate the next generation of assessment leaders in education. The role involves significant training in assessment design, collaboration with subject-matter experts, and practical skill development in item authoring and exam assembly. The fellow will work closely with the AP Curriculum and Assessment team, contributing to the development of assessments that align with higher education expectations and support student mastery of course content.

Responsibilities

  • Learn about item development and management from authoring to administration.
  • Support training and collaboration with subject-matter experts (SMEs) on how to author assessment content.
  • Understand assessment development protocols and the translation between academics and technical experts.
  • Support the development and management of all assessment content through iterative review stages with multiple stakeholders.
  • Attend and support the scoring of student AP Exams at the annual scoring event in person and online.
  • Contribute to learning and best practices related to assessment by participating in discussions with other AP Curriculum & Assessment staff members.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in African American Studies or a related field; doctorate preferred.
  • 3+ years professional experience post-college.
  • Emerging interest and ability in assessment and curriculum design.
  • Experience developing assessments or curriculum for own classroom.
  • Strong commitment to excellence and personal and professional growth.
  • Resourceful, intellectually curious, and empathetic.
  • Highly effective at building relationships across lines of difference.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to proofread.
  • Excellent skills in process and procedure implementation.
  • Technical acumen and proficiency with Microsoft Office and browser-based applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to give, accept, and address constructive feedback.
