About the position

Hays High School is looking for motivated educators who are goal-driven and steadfast in their approach to teaching content, while supporting each student to achieve their academic and personal goals. The anticipated Math Teacher will develop students' skills in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, financial math, and calculus, with a focus on real-world problem-solving techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in one or more fields of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, financial math, and calculus in accordance with district curriculum.
  • Promotes critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area and translates lesson plans into learning experiences.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs.
  • Maintains familiarity with district and Kansas State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • State Certification as a Math Teacher or as required for position.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
