About the position

Fresno City College seeks a full-time, tenure-track Anthropology Instructor to provide instruction in Anthropology on the Fresno City College campus and/or at off-site community campus locations. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in biological anthropology, archaeology/prehistory, and other subfields as needed. The position emphasizes the importance of serving a diverse student population and requires a commitment to equity-minded practices in education. The instructor will engage in student recruiting and mentoring, serve as a faculty advisor for student groups, and participate in various committees and professional development activities. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to closing equity gaps and fostering a culturally responsive teaching environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses in biological anthropology, including lecture and laboratory classes.
  • Teaching courses in archaeology/prehistory and other subfields as needed.
  • Student recruiting and mentoring.
  • Serving as faculty advisor for student groups.
  • Communicating effectively and professionally with colleagues, staff, and students.
  • Serving on department, college, and district committees as needed.
  • Participating in required professional development pertaining to one's teaching assignment.
  • Participating in program review, curriculum review, student learning outcome development and assessment.
  • Teaching assignments in various instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off-campus.
  • Fulfilling all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's in anthropology or archaeology; or
  • Bachelor's in either of the above and master's in sociology, biological sciences, forensic sciences, genetics or paleontology; or
  • A valid California Community College Credential; or
  • The equivalent education and/or experience.

  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
  • Recent experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding historical patterns of exclusion.
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to support racially minoritized students.
  • Experience teaching lower division transfer courses in anthropology at the community college level.
  • Experience teaching lecture and laboratory courses in biological anthropology.
  • Experience teaching lecture courses in archaeology/prehistory.
  • Experience teaching anthropology courses online and utilizing various educational technologies.
  • Experience mentoring and advising students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers and other technologies for high-quality instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, staff, and students.
  • Extent of experience and/or investment in collaborative work with colleagues and the wider community.

  • Starting annual salary is $71,054 - $106,970 based on education and experience.
