About The Position

Devereux - Massachusetts serves students with various complex psychological, emotional, and behavioral disorders, including but not limited to Autism Spectrum Disorder. Based in Rutland, MA, The Devereux Day school serves individuals age 6 through 21 who present with issues such as disruptive behaviors, mood/anxiety disorders, complex trauma, or abuse-reactive behaviors. You could be a part of an exceptional team of staff who support the needs of students in grades K-12 and beyond as they work towards diplomas and learn vocational, transitional, and social-emotional skills. Our students have typically experienced multiple academic failures, most often resulting from a wide variety of social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. The help you provide will make a difference in their lives!

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Valid Drivers License
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 3-5 years of direct animal related care, handling, training, dog daycare, kennel work or grooming (canines, small animals, small-farm animals) within a structured business setting required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree in animals or biology preferred.
  • Veterinary technician experience, identifying animal related behavioral and medical issues preferred
  • 2+ years experience working with youth populations within Special Education environments preferred

Responsibilities

  • Be passionate about working with and helping youth.
  • Carry out classroom based and hands on lessons following an animal science based curriculum
  • Provide routine care of animals including feeding, cleaning, sanitizing kennels, medication administration if needed and overall upkeep of the kennel and connected classroom.
  • Plan relevant field trips to fortify the student's learned skills and to broaden their view of available career opportunities
  • Teach students the pre-cursor skills for success in the animal field including basic animal care, behavior assessment tactics, safe handling, basic obedience concepts, and overall proper maintanence of a kennel environment
