About The Position

Reporting to the Director Investment Management, the analyst provides a variety of support in regard to the Administration of the Corporation defined benefit investments and defined contribution pension plans investments with assets totaling $2.5B, the majority of which are externally managed. VIA Rail is carrying out ambitious projects to modernize its services and infrastructure, from new train fleets to ongoing infrastructure improvement, building the future of transportation in Canada. Requirements

  • Must have an undergraduate degree in business/finance.
  • Enrolled in the CFA program, completed level 1.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience in pension, custody, performance measurement and/or consulting roles in an institutional context.
  • Strong interest for and knowledge of capital markets in various asset classes.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint.
  • Ability for working with databases of different vendors (Reuters, Preqin, etc.).
  • Manages time and resources effectively.
  • Able to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Communicates messages clearly and effectively in both French and English (written and oral).

Responsibilities

  • Performs the management and investment of the pension plan cash positions.
  • Maintains, verifies and reconciles internal and custody accounting records for investment valuations and transactions, contributions and benefit payments.
  • Responsible for the production of audited year-end financial statements and management of the audit process.
  • Conducts the ongoing oversight of the DC plans and investment options.
  • Ensures ongoing compliance with the Pension Fund governing Policies, monitors regulatory developments and industry best practices.
  • Monitors activities and reporting of investment managers and other external service providers and ensures their compliance with contractual and mandate terms.
  • Assists in the production of ongoing reporting to the Corporate Board and decision-making supporting documentation, as well as for internal communications.
  • Monitors capital markets developments and rebalancing requirements.
  • Assists in researching and evaluating capital market opportunities and investment products.
