About the position

The Analyst Cost Accounting position at Health First is responsible for maintaining effective clinical cost accounting and labor productivity systems. This role involves providing accurate, timely, and actionable information and analyses, performing complex routine and ad hoc duties that require specialized knowledge and independent judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Review and audit patient level database updates and supporting files in the cost accounting system.
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of information and adherence to procedures.
  • Import and maintain G/L and Payroll information necessary for overhead allocations and activity costing.
  • Understand, maintain, and execute RVU's, RCC's, VCC's, PLA allocations, reclasses, mappings, product lines, and statistics.
  • Maintain net revenue calculation rules, mappings, and lump sum/capitation payments to produce accurate profitability reports.
  • Complete monthly cost accounting procedures including data loads, statistics creation, cost allocations, and net revenue calculations.
  • Review audit reports and correct errors.
  • Complete the new fiscal year cost table creation process each year.
  • Understand hospital productivity concepts and measurement tools.
  • Ensure payroll and statistical information is accurately loaded, mapping tables are correct, and reporting results are valid.
  • Coordinate staff and process scheduling to ensure timely and accurate completion of routine processes.
  • Identify and solve problems, escalating issues to a Senior Analyst when necessary.
  • Create routine and complex ad hoc reports using in-depth knowledge of the clinical cost accounting system.
  • Review output and follow effective reconciliation procedures.
  • Communicate proactively with and engage other departments such as Finance, IT, PBS, and Charge Capture to address issues impacting clinical cost systems and reporting.
  • Collaborate with Sr. Analyst and Managers in departments with productivity benchmarks to select appropriate statistics and peer groups.
  • Prevent unauthorized release of patient or business information.
  • Validate and document access rights of customers.
  • Partner with customers to validate information, explain report content, interpret results, and refine requests to enhance output.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Two years of experience in Finance, PBS, Nursing, or Coding.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three or more years of experience in healthcare Cost Accounting.
