About the position

Reporting to the Executive Director of Development and working closely with the Annual Giving and Development Operations Manager, the Alumni Relations and Philanthropy Manager will play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of philanthropy within the alumni community at Berkshire Community College. This individual will lead alumni-focused fundraising efforts, cultivating meaningful relationships with alumni in collaboration with the Alumni Association Board. Key responsibilities include managing a portfolio of alumni donors, identifying and cultivating alumni prospects, and designing engagement strategies that inspire philanthropic support. The Manager will also support the planning and execution of events for the BCC Foundation, leveraging these opportunities to engage supporters and maximize funding outcomes. This position will work closely with the Alumni Association Board to connect with all alumni constituencies in ways that integrate fundraising initiatives seamlessly into alumni engagement strategies. By prioritizing these efforts, the Manager will ensure alignment with the College's mission and goals, strengthening the alumni community's role in advancing BCC's future.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit alumni donors, focusing on long-term relationship-building to sustain and grow donor support.
  • Execute strategic initiatives to increase alumni giving through campaigns, appeals, and events.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the BCC Alumni Association Board, supporting recruitment, engagement, and diverse representation while ensuring alignment with college priorities.
  • Collaborate closely with the Alumni Association Board to plan and implement fundraising efforts that enhance alumni participation and contributions.
  • Analyze fundraising trends, results, and engagement metrics to guide strategic decisions and optimize alumni giving outcomes.
  • Maintain an up-to-date alumni database to support targeted outreach, donor cultivation, and engagement activities.
  • Create an alumni engagement program that establishes a pipeline for future philanthropic support.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to share program messages, highlight alumni success stories, and foster a culture of philanthropy.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications team to create alumni publications and to create inspiring and relevant content for the BCC alumni website and social media channels.
  • Foster ongoing alumni engagement through outreach initiatives and content creation across various communication channels, including a bi-weekly alumni e-newsletter.
  • Represent BCC in community initiatives, collaborating with campus partners to build pathways for alumni and donor engagement.
  • Coordinate and execute special events for the Foundation and Alumni Association in collaboration with the Office of the President, including the College's 40 Under Forty and Harvest Run events.
  • Document event details and conduct post-event evaluations to inform improvements for future events.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of program outcomes, analyzing results to optimize project effectiveness.
  • Support the planning and implementation of BCC-wide virtual and in-person events and participate in campus committees to further institutional goals.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to build relationships with alumni, donors, and diverse stakeholders to foster meaningful engagement and philanthropic support.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage a diverse alumni community.
  • Proficiency in CRM or donor management software and Project Management tools (Raiser's Edge and Asana preferred).
  • Ability to plan, execute, and evaluate alumni engagement events and fundraising campaigns, both virtually and in-person.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects effectively, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to create an open and welcoming environment for alumni and donors from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work closely with the Alumni Association Board and other campus partners to align initiatives with institutional goals.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • General technology proficiency, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, and content creation for digital platforms.
  • Commitment to equity-minded practices and an inclusive approach to alumni and donor engagement.
  • Understanding and enthusiasm for the mission of community colleges.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3-5 years of experience in alumni relations, fundraising, or a related field, with a strong preference for experience in higher education.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft apps: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience working with alumni associations, boards, or volunteer groups.
  • Familiarity with planning and coordinating events, including managing logistics, guest lists, and post-event follow-up.
  • Ability to analyze engagement and giving trends to guide strategic decisions and optimize outcomes.
  • Experience working effectively in an environment requiring adherence to college, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures.

Benefits

  • Salary: $65,000 - $74,000 Full-time; benefited
