About the position

The Aluminum Finisher is responsible for surface finishing and initial formal inspection of castings to meet external quality requirements. This role involves selecting appropriate finishing equipment and tools, finishing castings while maintaining dimensional tolerances, and using measurement tools to ensure proper dimensional tolerances. The finisher will visually inspect castings for defects, determine whether parts proceed in the production process, document weld maps accurately, blend welds when necessary, rough blast parts, maintain lot integrity, and ensure proper paperwork is completed. The position may also require assisting other areas as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Selects appropriate finishing equipment and tools.
  • Finishes castings while maintaining dimensional tolerances.
  • Understands and uses measurement tools to ensure proper dimensional tolerances.
  • Visually inspects castings for defects.
  • Makes determination whether part goes forward in production process.
  • Documents weld maps accurately.
  • Blends welds when necessary.
  • Rough blasts parts.
  • Maintains lot integrity.
  • Ensures paperwork is properly done.
  • Helps other areas as needed.

Requirements

  • Able to work in a production environment.
  • Able to read and comprehend English.
  • Able to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens and 100s.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • Able to communicate effectively with co-workers.
  • Able to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Near vision requirements are Jaeger J1 in one eye, at no less than 12 inches; or equivalent, or Jaeger J2 in one eye, at no less than 16 inches.
  • Complies with company and departmental policies and procedures, including company's attendance policy.
  • Able to meet individual productivity requirements.
  • Able to meet internal quality requirements.
