About the position

The Agriculturist 2 position at the Nevada Department of Agriculture involves performing inspections and enforcement duties related to various agricultural programs. The role requires a degree of knowledge and proficiency to work independently, focusing on pest control licensing, seed testing, and compliance with agricultural regulations. The position is based in Las Vegas and reports to the Agriculturist 4.

Responsibilities

• Inspect pest control applicators at their office/warehouse and in the field according to inspection schedules and protocols.
• Work with companies and applicators to correct non-compliance issues with applicable codes.
• Investigate verified complaints from the public regarding possible violations of pesticide statutes and codes.
• Inspect restricted use pesticide dealers for compliance with federal and state statutes and codes.
• Inspect fumigation sites as needed and refer potential violations to the program manager for enforcement actions.
• Assist in managing the Nevada pest control licensing program and provide data related to pest control licensing processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in agricultural science or related field.
• One year of professional experience in agricultural inspection, seed certification, research, or enforcement of regulations related to agriculture and horticulture.
• OR one year of experience as an Agriculturist I in Nevada State service.
• Valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
