About the position
The Advanced Practice Provider in Psychiatry at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is responsible for providing healthcare services to patients under the supervision of a physician. This role involves examining patients, prescribing treatments, and collaborating with treatment teams to ensure comprehensive mental health care within correctional facilities.
Responsibilities
- Examine offender/patients to determine general mental health and prescribe treatment in conjunction with treatment teams' input.
- Administer medication as needed under the supervision of the Medical Director.
- Inspect, complete, and analyze medical records, and update patient classifications.
- Complete admission notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
- Make rounds on patients admitted to the facility.
- Take in-house and regional call on a rotation basis.
- Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners for specialized treatment.
Requirements
- Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association.
- Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas.
- Certification as a Physician Assistant from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.
- Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners or ability to transfer license to Texas.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
Nice-to-haves
- Psychiatric experience for Physician Assistant or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Certification.
