About The Position

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty medical care. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at Froedtert Hospital. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients as a member of the Department of Surgery - Division of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery. Requirements

Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.
Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.
Wisconsin RN License
Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License
American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
DEA registration
Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization
Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP)

Responsibilities

Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment vascular surgery patients in a primarily inpatient environment.
Writes accurate and timely H&Ps, progress notes, consult notes, procedure notes, discharge summaries and/or admission, discharge and transfer orders.
Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the vascular surgery services, such as, but not exclusive to, wound care and drain management.
Management in perioperative period.
Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
Develops an expertise in the coordination and delivery of care to patients on the vascular surgery service.
Collaborates with cross-department specialty care teams as well as primary care providers in consultative care of patients with vascular surgery needs.
