About the position

This position is located at one of the Service Unit hospitals or clinics under the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, in the Division of Clinical Services. The primary purpose of this position is to perform comprehensive professional medical care as an independent health care provider with skill that are for both common and relatively common medical problems.

Responsibilities

  • Provides diagnostic, therapeutic and appropriate follow up care to patients, and family members, with the ability to function as an independent practitioner.
  • Performs, interprets, or request special screening, developmental tests and laboratory tests. Provides guidance and instruction regarding self-care, wound care, follow-up appointments, etc.
  • Provides surveillance of medical practices applied to stabilize chronically ill persons; adjusts treatments, and refer patients to physician or other health team members. Work collaboratively with physician in management of selected complex medical problems.
  • Provides medical care and preventative services to healthy individuals, including guidance in nutrition, common illnesses, accidents, child growth and development and child rearing.
  • Maintains knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, staff meetings, and workshops.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
  • Adherence to the IHS Employee Immunization Policy, SGM 21-04, and the IHS Circular 2016-04 requiring Measles and Rubella, COVID-19, and seasonal influenza immunizations for staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities OR an exemption request will need to be submitted.
  • The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements.
  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Background Investigation: If selected, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in providing direct and comprehensive primary, preventive and therapeutic medical and nursing care to patients.
  • Experience in counseling and/or coordinating services and participating with other disciplines in reviewing the program.
