About the position

The Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Anesthetist) position at Tripler Army Medical Center involves providing specialized nursing care in anesthesiology. The role requires administering anesthesia, monitoring patients during surgical procedures, and ensuring compliance with anesthesia standards. The nurse anesthetist will also engage in research, education, and continuous improvement initiatives within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional nursing duties in the care of patients requiring anesthesia.
  • Determine the optimal type and method of anesthesia for various surgical procedures.
  • Support and promote ongoing research and publication in anesthesiology.
  • Comply with current standards of anesthesia practice and care.
  • Conduct educational programs to improve anesthesia nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate competency in pre-anesthesia preparation and patient care during surgery.
  • Collect data through interviews, observations, and medical record reviews before surgery.
  • Order and evaluate laboratory tests as necessary.
  • Interpret and report abnormal diagnostic data and modify anesthetic plans accordingly.
  • Induce anesthesia and manage patient care throughout surgical procedures.
  • Provide emergency services and life-saving procedures as needed.
  • Participate in departmental continuous improvement programs.

Requirements

  • Graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited program in Anesthesia.
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted license as a professional nurse.
  • At least one year of professional nursing experience equivalent to GS-11, including administering anesthetics and monitoring patients during surgery.
  • Completion of Basic Life Support training certification.
  • Ability to fulfill credentialing requirements and maintain clinical privileges.
