About the position

The Admissions Counselor at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is responsible for promoting the university to prospective students, families, and guidance counselors through various recruitment and communication techniques. This role involves extensive travel to high schools and community colleges, participation in college fairs, and hosting recruitment programs. The counselor must effectively engage with contemporary college-bound students using modern communication methods and is expected to conduct on-campus recruitment activities while supporting student academic success and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Travel extensively to meet recruitment goals assigned by the Director of Admissions.
  • Utilize social networking and technologically based recruitment techniques to engage prospective students.
  • Conduct group information sessions and interviews for students visiting the campus.
  • Assist in implementing on- and off-campus recruitment programs.
  • Counsel and correspond with prospective students and their families using various communication tools.
  • Represent the University at college fairs, college nights, and open houses.
  • Cultivate relationships with high schools, community colleges, and other educational institutions to facilitate enrollment.
  • Review and analyze demographic and enrollment trend reports to plan targeted recruitment activities.
  • Participate in programs sponsored by Admissions and Enrollment Management.
  • Serve as project lead on special assignments related to Admissions operations.
  • Assist in overseeing recruitment activities that provide outreach to prospective students.
  • Review applications for admissions and evaluate academic preparation and background.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Over 1 year of experience working with prospective students in guidance, admissions, or recruitment.
  • Proficiency in contemporary web-based marketing techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous guidance counselor experience.
  • Previous sales or marketing experience.
  • Experience in an educational institution.
  • Knowledge of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
