About The Position

This position is designed to assist the Principal in achieving the school's mission and objectives. The Administrative Intern/Assistant Principal shares responsibility with the Principal for the overall operation and success of the school. This role involves a wide range of duties focused on leadership, administration, curriculum, student achievement, staff development, and maintaining a positive school environment. The intern will gain experience in various aspects of school administration, working closely with the Principal and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Secondary or Elementary Education
  • Current Oklahoma Administrative Certificate
  • Three (3) years classroom teaching experience required
  • Ability to cope with crises and emergencies
  • Exhibit leadership skills
  • Ability to tolerate confrontations with students, colleagues and patrons
  • Knowledge of curriculum design
  • Ability to work closely with a diverse student population

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal in upholding and enforcing board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules, regulations, and laws.
  • Follow Federal, State, and District professional development guidelines and requirements.
  • Provide leadership for organizing and administering the school.
  • Assist the Principal in the planning, staffing, budgeting, and evaluation of the school program.
  • Monitor the teaching of the written curriculum and participate in curriculum development activities.
  • Provide opportunities and encouragement for staff to increase program expertise.
  • Collaborate with teachers to assist the Principal in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum.
  • Emphasize student achievement and social/emotional development.
  • Demonstrate positive and supportive interactive skills and facilitate positive relation skills among staff.
  • Recognize the efforts of students and teachers through written and verbal communications.
  • Encourage and support teacher and student-initiated projects that foster a positive school climate.
  • Collaborate with the Principal to develop and maintain positive staff morale.
  • Maintain high visibility and accessibility in the school.
  • Implement the district’s discipline policies and work with the Principal to make policy revision recommendations.
  • Coordinate and monitor the ISR program and the After School Detention program.
  • Assist the Principal in developing and meeting school-wide objectives/goals annually.
  • Assist the Principal in organizing and supervising school-related activities, minimizing interruptions to the instructional process.
  • Share responsibility for discipline and student control with the Principal.
  • Develop communications that reflect and support administrative team decisions and School Board Policies.
  • Keep district office administrators informed of district-related activities and problem situations.
  • Conference with students individually and in groups as needed.
  • Provide ongoing information to the Principal regarding school-related activities, programs, and problem situations.
  • Assist the Principal in the development of school policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in making decisions and establish procedural requirements.
  • Consult with the Principal and other appropriate sources prior to making important school-related decisions.
  • Assist the Principal in identifying, planning, and implementing staff development programs.
  • Collaborate with the Principal to develop and implement individualized instructional improvement programs.
  • Represent the Principal at meetings and functions.
  • View self as a role model for expected staff behavior.
  • Participate in professional organizations, workshops, and conferences.
  • Recognize areas needing improvement and work toward self-growth.
  • Assume leadership of the school in the absence of the Principal.
  • Collaborate with the Principal to establish and maintain rules and procedures for student and staff safety.
  • Assist Principal in monitoring plant, office, and equipment maintenance and submit appropriate work orders.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of school buildings and grounds and report needed work and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate personnel, student, and fiscal records.
  • Work with the Principal to prepare accurate budgets and monitor expenditures.
  • Provide information to the Principal for required district reports.
  • Collaborate with the Principal to identify future building needs and plan appropriate action.
  • Respect the privacy of confidential matters.
  • Use good judgment at all times.
  • Understand supplemental services including but not limited to GT, SPED, EL, students experiencing homelessness, and trauma.
  • Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance.
  • Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public.
  • Work cooperatively with parents/guardians/caregivers.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other staff members.
  • Respect the confidentiality of records and information.
  • Prepare for and demonstrate an understanding of distance learning strategies and/or virtual days.
  • Serve as a role model for students.
  • Encourage teachers to do the same.
  • Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
  • Assist in the implementation of district initiatives.
