About the position
The Administrative Analyst I position within the Police Administration Command focuses on supporting the efficient deployment of agency resources by analyzing crime patterns and trends. The role involves data collection, analysis, and the creation of various reports and presentations to inform law enforcement personnel about crime trends in Howard County and surrounding areas. The analyst will work closely with law enforcement and other analysts to enhance public safety through data-driven decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the efficient deployment of agency resources by identifying crime patterns, series, and trends.
- Collect and enter investigative reports into a computerized system, ensuring quality control and geocoding of addresses.
- Utilize computer programs and databases to analyze data and identify crime patterns and suspects.
- Produce maps, text, tables, graphs, and charts for reports and presentations using various software and hardware.
- Review data to make recommendations for resource deployment and strategic planning.
- Evaluate data analysis processes and recommend improvements in data collection and software.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- One year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in data collection and statistical analysis methods.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is preferred.
Nice-to-haves
- Three years of experience in Crime Analysis with demonstrated proficiency in GIS.
- Knowledge of current methods and technologies used in crime analysis.
- Familiarity with Howard County geography and its association with contiguous jurisdictions.
