About the position

The Adjustment Counselor at Barbieri Elementary School is responsible for providing services that address the social and emotional barriers to student achievement. This role involves assisting students with academic learning by identifying and addressing social-emotional concerns and environmental issues that interfere with the educational process. The counselor will work collaboratively with parents, the school principal, and community resources to implement strategies that promote positive school adjustment. The position aims to develop age-appropriate skills and promote social, emotional, and academic growth in children, aligning with Framingham Public Schools' high expectations for achievement and equal access to quality instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess academic and behavioral concerns impacting student adjustment.
  • Develop and implement measurable goals and objectives addressing students' social/emotional needs.
  • Provide individual and group therapeutic counseling to students.
  • Assist students in modifying behaviors that interfere with achievement.
  • Provide strategies and preventative interventions for clinical issues related to school-age children.
  • Serve as in-building liaison/coordinator for McKinney-Vento students.
  • Convene re-entry meetings for students returning from treatment facilities.
  • Provide strategies and resources to assist teachers with social/emotional issues.
  • Collaborate with school staff to promote student learning.
  • Provide crisis intervention services.
  • Conduct classroom meetings and psycho-educational social skills groups.
  • Participate in school-based teams to develop interventions for academic success.
  • Provide staff consultation to support student participation in learning.
  • Serve as liaison between families and the school.
  • Consult and collaborate with outside agencies and hospitals.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of student progress.
  • Complete reports related to IEP goals and progress monitoring.

Requirements

  • Current and valid MA DESE as a School Social Worker/Guidance Counselor.
  • Experience supporting students in academic, social/emotional, and career domains.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and community agencies.
